The rhetoric of ignoring ‘haters’ is too often used as an excuse to ignore criticism and continue status quo. Why not? It’s easy and it works. Essentially, the writers that spew to leave your comfort zone are often the ones that stay themselves.
But it’s not something that should be held as admirable, I think.
Not using clickbait titles or checking privilege are good things, don’t get me wrong, but they should be the obvious thing to do.
I think what’s more important is to present new, exciting information rather than presenting mimicked information in an exciting way. Writing about entrepreneurship and creativity is easy if that’s all you do.
I think you truly want to cultivate more meaning, Jon. So here’s my advice:
Why not write about topics bores you?
Expand your repertoire — why not create an article about gardening that makes it’s way into top stories. Challenge yourself.
Of course, the above in itself is clichéd advice, I know. But there seems to be a daunting void between practicing and preaching.
I hope you read this, because while I’m not applauding you for writing this, I am holding my breath to see unique content in the future. Cheers.
